BEGINNINGS: EPOCHA
Back in 2015 when I was learning about the retail side of the street-fashion industry, I worked at a place called Epocha. It was a beautiful, unique boutique store that sold street-style brands, footwear and vintage thrift (that is now the craze, ironically). We decided to cook up a lookbook, which later lead to a cookbook (more on this later!), which helped us get more traffic through the doors.
We had great team energy and I remember the shoot day, and it was laughs and fun getting this project done. Some of my favorite times in this work, is when you have a great group of people together that are dedicated to bringing forth a vision that captures the essence of the collective effort. We were all sort of what I’ll call ‘experienced rooks’, new to it but not really new to it — and we all felt successful in the final result.
In hindsight, I can see what I would’ve done differently though with the booklet layout. Well, the main thing really is the spacing on the copy and titling… and maybe the font choice… and the filters on some of the photos. I liked those fonts at the time, but I dunno — could be different. And, I wanted to add a dynamic to some of the photos, but maybe too much? Ah well, it’s still dope and, hey… had to learn!
Shoutout to the owner at the time, Brandon, and to the talented, John Benitez. Also, this was our homies, Cory, Victoria, and Hunter’s first real shoot as models! They knocked it outta the park. Good times, great content, and memorable moments for all of our portfolios. Check it out!
